Today we received a press release from Bausch&Lomb, the manufacturers of the very popular PureVision contact lens. The company has introduced PureVision Multifocals, one of the most advanced contact lenses for presbyopia. In their campaign they refer to the condition of presbyopia by “long arm syndrome”. Ironically it’s a really fitting description of the experience many people in their mid 40s make when they can’t see close distant objects any more. Those people have in the past had to strart using reading glasses, bifocals or graduated glasses. Just the other day a client came into the shop complaining about little spots on his glasses. “There must be something wrong with the coating of my new lenses! Surely that shouldn’t happen. They are only new and I don’t work with chemicals!” I had a close look at the lenses and sure enough, the surface of the lenses showed small white dotts all over the front and back surface. ... read more

Employers beware! According to the New Zealand “Health & Safety Employment Act” employers must, amongst others, “provide suitable protective clothing and equipment to staff”. This includes safety prescription eyewear. To be compliant to this requirement, it is not enough to supply some protective side shields and/or plastic lenses.
