We are extremely happy to have Dita Legends in our store now. Dita is a Californian based eyewear design company that specialise in designing incredibly stylish optical frames and sunglasses. Their frames are inspired by vintage frames from the 50’s through to the 80’s. So what, you may ask, they are probably just a re-make of some old fashioned frames. Not so!

When I first saw a Dita frame, I was im pressed by so many things. Those of you who follow my blurbs here know that I can get excited about great design and great quality. These frames surely fit these descriptions. They are made from high quality materials such as top class zyl acetates and metals. But not only that. Once you have a Dita frame in your hand, you can actually feel the difference compared to many other frames. The finish of the acetate is very smooth and highly polished, resulting in a very comfortable feel for the wearer.

The shapes, as mentioned before, are inspired by vintage frames from the 50’s through to the 80’s. The difference? The sizes have been changed and the shapes refined. When you look at the hinges, the love to detail and quality becomes obvious. They actually ooze quality. They are attached to front and sided either via custom made hex rivets or 10K gold plated rivets, and the gold version of the hinge is made from 10K gold and features a sturdy ball hinge.

The other small detail I particularly like is the logo, which is located on the hinge, not visble from the outside and not bigger than around 2 or 3 mm. Dita’s logo details are intentionally subtle so that the frame itself defines the look rather than the logo. This allows the design of the frame to complement features of the wearer and contribute to their overall style.

Some people don’t care about details like this as long as the frames look cool. Well, I do, because I can see the value in good quality. Quality lasts, rubish doesn’t. Quality products have the potential to become classics, rubbish doesn’t. Let me tell you, there is a reason why Dita Legends have already become just that – legends. These coveted vintage-inspired frames have quickly become the “it” accessory for the high-powered fashion elite and celebrity A-List. Dita has built up an impressive celebrity clientele including Brad Pitt, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Jessica Simpson, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Lenny Kravitz, Eva Mendez and Jamie Fox, to name just a few. There are only three places in New Zealand that stock Dita Legends optical frames – two in Auckland (North Island) and one in Motueka (South Island).
