ic!berlin prescription framesEveryone knows we love ic!berlin! Why? Simply because the ic!berlin design concept is so unique, simple, flexible and sturdy. It’s funny really – when I meet another ic!berlin wearer, we end up admiring each others frames. It doesn’t really matter if I had known this person before or not, a bond is formed almost instantly, be it only by way of a smile or a positive eye contact (but probably both). “So you are wearing an ic!berlin as well? Great choice! I love mine. How long have you had yours?”… and so it usually goes.

ic!berlins have, over the past 10 years or so, almost become cult objects. How can it be that a simple specatcle or sunglasses frame becomes a cult object? According to thesaurus.com, a cult object is an “object believed to have supernatural powers”. Well, if you look at the example above or have experienced how these frames can become the subject of discussions at parties for example, you tend to become a believer, trust me.Claudia wearing ic!berlin with polaroid progressive prescription lenses

So what is is then in particular that makes these frames so recognisably different from your standard spectacle frame? I guess the most intriguing feature, apart from being made from a stainless steel sheet whithout the use of any welds or screws, is it’s lens locking and hinge design. When you look closely, the hinge almost looks like a fork being attached to the front of the frame. So the hinge is most certainly the trademark of any ic!berlin frame and the part that makes the ic!berlin recognisable.

I found this video on Youtube recently, which will give a great idea on how the lens locking and hinge mechanism works on these incredible design items. Pure ic!berlin magic!
