Way back in the late 80’s and the early 90’s Australian Jonathan Sceats frames were amongst the hottest frames one could own. They were great quality, made from wonderful acetates and simply refreshing to wear! Well, Jono is back! This time with a cool range marketed under his own name. I thought I’d show a few frames from his latest collection here. BTW, the frames featured are now available in the shop.
The first one fits right into the “Retro Look” category. Model 8117 is a heavy looking black acetate frame with equally heavy looking, wide sides. Although some other designers have come up with styles like this one, the Jono frame has a twist. The sides are in fact made from an acetate laminate that makes it look real classy. Like all Jono frames, it features an inlayed Jono Hennessy logo plate on both temple ends giving it inconspicuous authenticity. These frames don’t need a huge designer label on the outside of the frame to show off!
Model 8128 is another wonderful example of the use of acetate laminates. The outside features gold speckeled dark tortoishell, with a transparent blue laminated on the inside creating a very unique and refreshing combination and giving the retro shape new life.
Likewise model 8071 in colour 469. Tjhe special twist here comes from the combination of a dark tortoishell front and lighter woodlook temples. This colour combination gives the frame a smart and valuable look.
The acetate material used in model 8000 is a very light colour, almost like a beige buffalo horn. Mind you, way back in the days before eywear became fashion accessories, some frames were actually made from horn. There are still a handful of manufacturers who still work with real horn, but the material is not easy to work with, hard to adjust but easy to break. So, here we have the modern interpretation of of an old topic, both in design and technology.
