1. Claudia, do you do Eye Exams there?

We are Dispensing Opticians and don't do eye testing ourselves. A registered Optometrist is available on several days per months to do eye examinations if you need one. The cost for this service currently is $50 and will take around 30 to 45 minutes. Alternatively you can bring your existing prescription to us. Our specialty is to advise and help you with your frame and lens selection.

  2. I do like your glasses, but I need a new prescription too. Where shall I go?

If you feel you want to try a different optometrist to the one you have seen before for whatever reason, we would be happy to arrange an appointment for a comprehensive eye test with one of our visiting optometrists. Come and talk to us. If you have been happy with your old optometrist and want to stay loyal, we recommend you have your prescription checked there and bring the updated prescription to us after the test. We will then sit down with you and discuss your specific requirements in terms of lenses and frames. A personal lens and frame consultation will almost certainly take between 30 and 60 minutes, so please never be in a rush when you come to see us..

  3. Do You sell contact lenses?

Yes, but why would you even want to wear contact lenses once you are comfortable with your specs? Our mission is to change you from someone who has to wear glasses to someone who wants to wear glasses. Having said that, we certainly do believe that contact lenses have their place. In particular for social outings and/or sports, daily lenses could be of real benefit. Talk to us if you want to try them.

  4. Do you sell specs for guys too?

Yes, only cool guys though.... of course. But seriously, we have a very beautiful range of guy's frames trying to get away from the average "blokes" glasses (if there is such a thing) to something more modern, still focusing on quality and functionality.

  5. If I come in to CLAUDIA K, am I going to see those endless racks with frames displayed on them, you know like the ones I see in so many other optical discount stores?

When hell freezes over. The shop has specifically been designed to avoid this scenario. We are carrying mid to top end products. These products deserve to be shown effectively, so that their quality and aesthetics get the attention they deserve. This is not possible in an environment so typical for optical discount stores.

  6. Do you sell designer frames?

The frames we sell are designed strictly by spectacle frame designers. All of these designers have been in the optical business themselves for many years. They only design frames. They do not design handbags, jeans or anything else.

  7. I heard that you guys are really expensive, how much are your frames?

Our frames range in price from $90 to about $900. We always have a few styles on sale (those frames are around 30% off the regular price)

  8. OK, how much for a pair of glasses then?

A common question and one of the most difficult to answer. It is somewhat similar to the question “how much is a car?” Prices for a car vary between, say, $15K and $150K. There is, unfortunately, no easy answer to this question. The reason is that it all depends on the type of lens and the type of frames you choose. There are lens types that may be better suited to your requirements than “just readers”. There may also be special requirements for the frame you choose. All depends on the individual requirements. Therefore the honest answer would have to be “somewhere between $99 and $1,000 or more”.

  9. I only need new lenses to my existing frame. Can you do that?

We have our own workshop and can glaze many of the lenses we dispense ourselves. We also carry a comprehensive range of lenses in stock and can in many cases fit lenses within the hour. Even if you need progressive or bifocal lenses to be re-glazed into your own frame, you don’t have to be without your glasses for more than, say an hour or two.

  10. Do you do repairs?

Yes, we do most repairs in our own workshop. This includes spare part replacements for many frame types (including those not purchased from us), solder repairs and frame re-alignments. Screw and nose pad replacements as well as adjustments are done usually done free of charge.

  11. Do you offer Grey Power, SupaCard or SeniorsCard discounts?

Yes, we do. We are now able to offer Grey Power, SuperGold and Seniors card holders the following discounts: - 50% off the cost of a standard Eye-Examination (normally $50, save $25), plus - 15% off all frames Simply present your current Grey Power or SuperGold membership card to qualify for these discounts.

  12. OK, so where are you located?

We are located on 230A High Street in Motueka, right next to the Vodafone store.
