Well, just recently we found an excitingZanotti LIZ V2 range of laminated acetate frames and felt we definitely had to add some of the frames to our collection. It doesn’t happen very often, but every now and again, we see something that really catches our eye. These frames certainly fall into that category. They are just different in every way, their shapes, the use of material and the choice of colour. There is a hint of retro, a hint of classic style, a hint of extravagance and a lot of quality. The mix is perfect and will certainly suit the person who values these three ingredients. ... read more

Lindberg Acetanium 1125Just a quick update on our ever growing Lindberg collection. We received another wonderful ladies model (1125, colAC39). It oozes class! The shape is very feminine with soft lines and simplistic style. The Acetanium is made from a 3-ply acetate material, which works really well. The front features a highly polished black, with a very fine ebony and mother of pearl layer behind. The sides are made from titanium and their colour (a matt finished light grey) complement the dark coloured front perfectly. Like all Lindberg Acetanium frames, they feature adjustable nose pads and a screwless hinge. Heavy? Not at all. Although I didn’t wheigh them, they can’t be more than about 10 grams. ... read more

Ronit Furst - Handpainted Eyewear, just the right thing for New Zealand's Art CapitalAfter having been away from the practice for the last few weeks, it is nice to be back in Motueka. Having said that, I am not sure if I like the current weather so much. You see I spent the last 2 weeks in a coutry where the average temperature was around 30 degrees. Coming back to Motueka and arriving here in the shop at 7 degrees and looking very grey and miserable …… it certainly takes a little bit of getting used to. On the bright side, we received some really nice and colourful glasses from Ronit Furst while I was away. Ronit is an Israeli artist and has been making hand painted eyewear for a number of years now. You don’t see them very often, and if so, it is usually only in a few of the very top end optical shops in New York, Paris, Sydney and the like. ... read more

Simplicity - the key to great frame designA trend, currently set by some top German and Danish frame designers, is to keep their designs simple, with clean lines, light but still extremely robust and strong. 3 companies in particular stand out: ic!berlin, MYKITA from Germany and Lindberg from Denmark. All three companies not only design their frames, they also manufacture them in their respective countries. Is alone is already somewhat against the trend, because many frame design companies have their designs made in Japan or China. ... read more

Lindberg Acetanium - hinge detail - mod 1225 col AC14This morning a particularly nice example of the Lindberg Acetanium range arrived in the store. It’s model 1225 in a stunning combination of 3-ply acetate and strip titanium sides. The frame, as usual is incredibly light and of immaculate quality. The 3-ply combination of acetate is unusual with tortoishell on the outside, a yummy purple on the inside and a light grey in the middle. Inserted in the bridge are the titanium pad arms with silicon cushions that support the frames comfortably on any shaped nose. ... read more

Double Vision - deSign Markus T - mod 032 - olive and cappuccinoAs mentioned in a tweet a couple of days ago, we have received 2 new deSign Markus T frames. It’s a new shape introduced in the incredibly light and sturdy me-collection. The two colour are cappuccino (a soft matt brown) and olive (a nice and soft green). Both frames have matt clear sides which look stunning in either combination. We decided to add these 2 frames to our collection of Markus T frames, because they are just slightly deeper than earlier models. This makes them particularly suitable for the lady who requires a larger frame and/or is using progressive addition lenses. ... read more

You may have noticed that our Online Shop is not accessable at the moment. It is currently being renovated as the “old” shop turned out to be rather difficult to navigate and we also had a few issues with it’s integration into the main website (that’s what happens when an amateur tries to do everything himself – never mind, we enjoy it). Hopefully we’ll be able to get the shop back online in a few days or so. ... read more
