As mentioned in an earlier post, Kodak have introduced a new progressive lens with “Anti Fatigue Technology”. Claudia and I were invited to attend a seminar where the philosophy and manufacturing process of this new approach to “anti-fatigue” progressive lens design was explained. For us as practicioners it is very important that we stay on top of technological developments not only on frame design, but in also on lens design. Earlier in the week we had a client in the shop who was surprised about our lens dispensing techniques. We accurately calculated the actual thickness of his lenses in the new frame he had chosen. It was important to him to have an aesthetically beautiful pair of glasses, and because of the actual power of his lenses he expressed real concern of what the finished glasses might look like. During the consultation we were able to discuss various options and calculate the exact thickness of his lenses in the various frames that suited him (one of those actually was a rimless frame). ... read more
