The design concept of a specatacle frame should be based on comfort, aesthetics and quality. That is why we are always on the lookout for innovative ideas that fit this formula. The “me” range by MarkusT is one of those exceptional interpretations that could almost be called ingeneous.
The “me” frame collection is a stunning range of synthetic rimmed glasses frames. They are ergonomically shaped and extremely light, actually weighing less than three grams. That, so far has been unheard of for any other plastic frame. For the first time it is possible to have the “heavier look” of a plastic frame without the weight usually associated with other plastic frame ranges. The side view shows their discreet contours, and when viewed from the front they have an almost futuristic look. Two patents are pending for this innovative composition of titanium and TMi synthetics, which is a synthetic material combined with a mix of different other materials such as carbon fibre and fibre glass.
The lenses are mounted with an effective clamping system that enables a fixation of the lenses without costly mounting systems, screws or having to heat up the material. You really have to try one of the “me” frames in order to appreciate what it feels like to wear almost nothing……….
We met Markus T several years ago (it was in the early 1990’s) at an optical fair in Paris (SILMO). We were immediately intrigued by his passion for good design and the quality of craftsmanship of his frames. At the time, he had just released the “deSign” collection, consisting of minimalistic metal frames bent from a thin titanium wire. This range has now become a classic of good frame design. Markus is a German Master Optician and started designing his own ranges after experimenting with titanium wires when the material became more popular amongst spectacle frame manufacturers. The problem at the time was that it was a very difficult material to work with, especially soldering and screw mounting was a real problem. Markus’ solution to this problem at the time was to use no screws or welds at all. The deSign collection was one of the first “minimalistic ” frame designs on the market.
We believe that with the introduction of the “me” range, Markus has again shown that nothing is impossible……
